(The Sixth in the series of ‘The 7 Mavens of SOPs’)

A great Hello from ᵭᵱᵬ’the मितवा’ ! ‘ᵭᵱᵬ’ is my initial and ‘मितवा’, a Marathi acronym for Friend, Philosopher and Guide, my humble role to ‘Sit Back and Give Back’, after 4 decades of career-cruise.

Series Title: ‘7 Mavens of SOPs’ is expression for instilling some of my learnings as “seven propositions in sets of seven SOPs (norms)”, befitting the human mental capacity and attention span.

The sixth edition, ‘7 SPECIES Of Prolusion’, finds the origin in the opening article of the series –‘7 Sets Of Practices’. It proposes 7 types of periodic ‘warm ups’ which are essential for every individual to ensure ever-readiness for self and the surrounding eco-system in the quest of quintessence.

7 SPECIES Of Prolusion

SPIRITUAL dimension is core to the value system. It's a supremely important part of the life. It draws upon the sources that inspire and uplift oneself tying to the timeless truths of all humanity. Meditating, reading, listening to soulful music, nature walk, dancing and singing are few things which makes one renewed, strengthened and centered spiritually.


PHYSICAL aspect involves caring effectively for our biological body by eating the right kind of food, getting sufficient rest and relaxation, and exercising on a regular basis which releases endorphins making us happier and shaper. One doesn’t need any special equipment to do it. A good exercise program is one that you can do at home and one that nurtures the body in three areas: endurance, flexibility, and strength.


EMOTIONAL element play a vital role in our wellbeing. In the age of intensive information imbroglio, the ability to manage thoughts and feelings is essential to success. Constantly bombarding of news alerts, text messages, and other such interruptions, make us start to lose our way. To overcome this, instead of suppressing the resultant inner experiences, one should approach them in a mindful, values-driven, and productive way to practice emotional agility. It can help alleviate stress, reduce errors, become more innovative, and improve effectiveness.

CULTURAL factor is important in shaping of the character. It influences personal identity because this gives one the label for the group that one belongs in. Humans are social animals and culture is the glue that holds groups of humans together. It’s important to connect back - it allows to identify with others of similar mindsets and backgrounds. Cultural connection can provide an automatic sense of unity and belonging within a group. In today’s context cross-cultural understanding and appreciation give an added advantage in social dealing.

INTELLECTUAL stimulus is a must in the current knowledge intensive world. Habit of reading is obligatory to expose to great minds of present and past for acquiring new knowledge. It may start with a goal of a book a month then a book every two weeks, then a book a week. "The person who doesn't read is no better off than the person who can't read." Writing to communicate on the deeper level of thoughts, feelings, and ideas enhances our ability to think clearly, to reason accurately, and to be understood effectively. Organizing and planning represent other forms of mental/intellectual renewal. It's beginning with the end in mind and being able mentally to organize to accomplish that end. It's exercising the creative visualisation of the mind to envisage the end to end journey.

ECOLOGICAL awareness is about valuing the synergism in nature that everything is related to everything else. When people work to become more effective, they don't think broadly enough and lose the sense of proportion, the balance, the natural ecology necessary for equilibrium of life. Simple actions can decrease the ecological footprint and change the future of the planet. Adapt the day to day behaviors to Reduce-Reuse-Replace-Recycle-Recharge-Refuse at first place if not essential and do constantly Remember and Remind: ‘We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children’.

SOCIAL sense is cognizance of the privilege of living on the earth and moral responsibility to pay its rent in form of selfless service. There exists at least one such opportunity every day to serve another human being in a meaningful way by really making difference to him/her. As per one research- a long, healthy, and happy life is the result of having significant projects that are personally exciting, creative and contributing to and blessing the lives of others.
